Five Inquirer Boxers Gained Quarter-Finals in U.S. Title Tests
|
BOSTON, Mass., April 4. - Philadelphia Inquirer AA boxers held up in good style with five hurdling the first and second trial rounds to enter the quarter-finals in the national amateur championships at Boston Garden here tonight.
William Speary, winner last year in the flyweight class, now competing in the 118 division with his John Aiello, swept through to two decisive victories, while Anthony Saraullo handled the 126 pound assignment with equal success.
The Quaker City team failed to qualify a challenger in the 135-pound class but with Vincent Golatto in the 147-pound class gave the Pennsylvania team a strong group of challengers for the crowns.
Speary and Golatto revealed impressive fighting, by taking their contests without a dissenting vote, while Saraullo's two-round knockout over George Corn, Boone, N.C., featherweights, and Willie Collins, 175-pounder, stopped Elbert Robinson, of Detroit, in the first round.
