James Earl is first documented in Luzerne County on a list regarding the
Connecticut/Wyoming controversy. This list is to be found in the
Pennsylvania Archives, Second Series, Volume XVIII in the section called
'Miscellaneous Papers.' Other than the title there is no explanation.
This particular list is not dated but most others are dated 1784
Title of List:
"A list of the inhabitants which was plundered and ordered off the ground
on pain of Death, and their houses burned over their heads; but are
remaining at Wyoming."

He is found again in the 1790 census for Luzerne County & is listed as a
taxable inhabitants of Huntington, Luzerne County in 1796.
A "Schedule of whole number of persons, manufacturers & stock in the
division allotted to the District of Huntington in the County of Luzerne
and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania" - dated 1810
shows James Earl with:
1 free white male over the age of 45
2 free white males between ages 26 & 45
1 free white male between ages 16 & 26
1 free white female over the age of 45
4 free white females between ages 16 & 26
1 free white female between ages 10 & 16
1 card, 1 loom & 2 spinning wheels for the purpose of weaving
